SpecificationsMany suppliers advertise ‘prime’ or ‘premium’ quality when in reality they are selling second or third grade worktops. Barncrest specifications show that we do not sacrifice quality in any area. Inferior wood products are a false economy for you the customer.

Barncrest is the only company to publish the specification of its hardwood worktops and to provide wood samples completely free of charge. If you are considering an alternative supplier we suggest you request a specifications list from them before parting with any money for an inferior sample.

Please be wary of vague claims of ‘from sustainable sources’ or false claims of FSC or PEFC accreditation. Any claims should be backed up with certification or can easily be checked online.

Timber Grade
All Barncrest worktops are constructed from furniture-grade timber meeting the highest manufacturing and environmental criteria.

Knots
Wood is a natural product and knots are a natural part of the growing process of a tree. The ‘A’ surface of our worktops may contain small knots j10-j30 as specified in BS EN 942.  However, we guarantee that there will be no structurally weakening knots anywhere in our worktops – no loose knots or empty knot holes.

Shakes/end cracks
No structurally weakening shakes or end cracks

Filler
No unsightly visible fillers.

Sapwood
The ‘A’ surface of our worktops are all virtually sapwood free.

Staves
120-140mm wide with tight, glued finger-joints to stave ends.

Moisture
Moisture content 8-12% (maximum)

Glue
D4 glue (non-toxic glue to current EEC food specification). Formaldehyde free.

Defects
No rot, wormhole or other infestation, dead or alive.
No other defects, be they natural, technical or resulting from poor drying.

FSC accreditation
All certificated products supplied to Barncrest are supported by Full FSC documentation including, supplier accreditation number. SGS-COC-006221
